The team knows that and it doesn’t matter who is available. We will focus on every game and approach it with the mindset that we have to win.” The Red Devils are set to face Southampton on Saturday, at St. Mary’s Stadium with 4 first team players. Ten hag is an absolute joke😡with this lineup we should just forget about the 3 point. We are doomed💔😡🙀
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has announced that Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw will not be available for the upcoming Premier League match against Southampton, which will take place at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, September 14.
Both players have yet to play for Manchester United this season. The 21-year-old Danish forward, Hojlund, suffered a hamstring injury during a pre-season match against Arsenal in the United States, while Shaw sustained a calf injury at the start of pre-season training.
There was hope among supporters that Hojlund and Shaw would return after the international break, but ten Hag updated fans on their progress. According to Fabrizio Romano on X, ten Hag said, “Rasmus Højlund and Luke Shaw are progressing very well but won’t be available to face Southampton on Saturday.”
In addition to Hojlund and Shaw, Manchester United is dealing with several other injury issues, including Tyrell Malacia, Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelöf, Daniel Gore, and Mason Mount. These injuries have contributed to a difficult start to the 2024-25 season, with United winning just one of their first three Premier League games.
Despite these setbacks, ten Hag stressed that the team must focus on winning and not make excuses. “We are still in a transition period but NO excuses. We have to win every game. I know that. The team knows that, and it doesn’t matter who is available. We will focus on every game and approach it with the mindset that we have to win,” the Dutch manager stated.
Currently, Manchester United is 14th in the Premier League table with three points from three matches, a disappointing start for a club with high ambitions for the season.
In other news, former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has urged ten Hag to consider naming Kobbie Mainoo as Manchester United’s captain. Petit believes that the 19-year-old English midfielder, who represents the future of the club, should be given the captaincy early in his career.
Speaking to *Top Offshore Sportsbooks*, Petit praised Mainoo and fellow young player Alejandro Garnacho as future leaders of Manchester United. “I’m looking at the squad and I can’t see any leaders. United’s best players have been the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. It would be a bold move, but if I’m Ten Hag, maybe I would make a strong decision and appoint the future of the club (Mainoo) as my captain,” Petit commented via *Metro*.
Petit further argued that Mainoo, despite his young age, is gaining recognition on the national team and could become a source of pride for United’s supporters. “Maybe Erik ten Hag needs to make a statement to his underperforming players and show that he’s ready to fight alongside those who are ready to fight with him,” Petit added.
Bruno Fernandes, appointed as captain by ten Hag in 2023, remains the current skipper, but Petit’s suggestion indicates ongoing discussions about leadership at the club. Mainoo, who began his senior career with United in 2022, has scored five goals and provided one assist in 39 appearances across all competitions.
As Manchester United prepares for their match against Southampton, pressure is mounting on both the manager and players to perform well despite the injury setbacks and high expectations from fans and football pundits.
