The midfielder for Bayern Munich, Jamal Musiala, disclosed that Lionel Messi of Inter Miami is his football idol.

Reiterating that he constantly watches Messi’s games, Musiala said he was honoured to be the Argentine’s 2023 Kopa Trophy nominee.

Remember that a jury comprised of past Ballon d’Or winners chose the winner, with Musiala coming in second place behind Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid.

Every year on the same day as the Ballon d’Or, the world’s top U-21 player is named the winner of the Kopa Trophy.

Musiala recently stated the following to journalist Phillip Kessler (via All About Argentina X):

“I considered that to be a great honour. Growing up, Messi was always someone I looked up to.

“I’ve always followed his games and thought highly of him.”
