‘We didn’t agree he told me to play as a left back but I didn’t….’… Joao Cancelo shares what went wrong between him and Pep Guardiola at Man City

Regarding the issues that arose between him and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Joao Cancelo has spoken up.

Cancelo’s loan move to Bayern Munich in January of last year stunned the globe when he was benched by City for a few games following the globe Cup in Qatar.

Pep Guardiola and the Portuguese full-back have reportedly had issues with their working relationship since the 2021–2022 campaign, according to a report published in August.

On a few points, Joao Cancelo claims he “didn’t agree” with Pep Guardiola.
The 29-year-old, who is presently on loan at Barcelona, has stated that he hopes to clinch a permanent contract with the team during the summer transfer window.

In June, Guardiola acknowledged that City would have sold the former Inter Milan technician to bitter rivals Manchester United even if it meant doing so.

Joao Cancelo has now offered a succinct account of his interactions with Pep Guardiola.

We’re not required to agree on everything, thus there are certain subjects on which we couldn’t agree. It was just that we couldn’t agree on certain things or that he disagreed with something I stated. But I am really appreciative and don’t harbour any anger. Life goes on, and I’m pleased right here,” he said to the Portuguese news agency RTP.

Elegant response from Joao Cancelo
Joao Cancelo opted against going public with all the information on the possible fallout with Pep Guardiola.

Cancelo has shown his appreciation for having collaborated with Guardiola, dubbed one of the best managers in history.

The former Valencia defender was a stalwart for the Sky Blues and among the top players in European football until he moved to play for Bayern and Barcelona.

Paul Merson stated last month that the Benfica academy product, who popularised the use of the inverted full-back position in the Premier League, “changed the face of football.”

Maybe Cancelo and Guardiola’s relationship did not work out, but rather than criticising him and creating a scene, he chose to concentrate on his football career, which is always better than a pointless public feud.
