The 29-year-old, who is presently on loan at Barcelona, has stated that he hopes to clinch a permanent contract with the team during the summer transfer window.
In June, Guardiola acknowledged that City would have sold the former Inter Milan technician to bitter rivals Manchester United even if it meant doing so.

Joao Cancelo opted against going public with all the information on the possible fallout with Pep Guardiola.
Cancelo has shown his appreciation for having collaborated with Guardiola, dubbed one of the best managers in history.
The former Valencia defender was a stalwart for the Sky Blues and among the top players in European football until he moved to play for Bayern and Barcelona.
Paul Merson stated last month that the Benfica academy product, who popularised the use of the inverted full-back position in the Premier League, “changed the face of football.”
Maybe Cancelo and Guardiola’s relationship did not work out, but rather than criticising him and creating a scene, he chose to concentrate on his football career, which is always better than a pointless public feud.
