According to reports, Manchester United will reject Getafe’s requests to extend Mason Greenwood’s loan for a second season in an effort to capitalise on the academy standout. Greenwood’s services have been discussed by the La Liga team for the summer, although United is expected to recall him before a permanent deal is made.

On deadline day last summer, Getafe signed the 22-year-old forward on a season-long loan after determining that his future would be better served outside of Old Trafford.

After relocating to Spain with his fiancée Harriet and becoming a father in July of last year, he is apparently content with his life away from the limelight.

Greenwood has played in 24 La Liga games for Getafe, scoring six goals, dishing out five assists, and generating 23 opportunities.

Due to his performances, the former United No. 11 is apparently attracting major interest from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, among others, to join with him.

Getafe is reportedly eager to keep Greenwood on loan till the end of the following campaign and has discussed the idea with United.

The Red Devils, according to The Sun, aren’t willing to approve another loan, and if the team chooses to sell Greenwood, the emphasis will be on a long-term deal.

It’s not yet certain if he’s sold. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a co-owner of United, has not ruled out a possible comeback, saying that a “fresh” decision will be taken when the time is right.

It’s obvious that we need to decide. No choice has been decided upon. Ratcliffe clarified in February, “He’s not the only one, obviously; he’s on loan.”

We will deal with the one or two football players we have to deal with and make a decision about.

The procedure will be to grasp the facts, ignore the hype, and then make an effort to reach a just conclusion based on principles.
