Transfer news journalist Ben Jacobs has clarified that the rumors about Liverpool players Luis Diaz and Thiago Alcantara moving to Barcelona this summer lack substance.

In his column for CaughtOffside, Jacobs stated that Liverpool has no intention of selling Diaz, who remains a key player for the team. He emphasized that Barcelona is unlikely to afford the Colombian international due to their Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Diaz is vital to Liverpool, and fans shouldn’t worry about the Barcelona rumors. It’s more of a long-term dream for Diaz to play there rather than something imminent.

Regarding Alcantara, Jacobs mentioned that the experienced midfielder aims to stay in Europe after his Liverpool contract ends, though he hasn’t decided on his next destination yet.

Jacobs said, “Liverpool wants to retain Luis Diaz, who is under contract until 2027, and they have no plans to sell him this summer despite the Barcelona links. Diaz has a long-term aspiration to play in Spain, as his father recently mentioned, but he shows no intention of leaving Liverpool now. Barcelona cannot afford him without significant sales due to Financial Fair Play issues.”

Jacobs also discussed potential sales at Barcelona, mentioning Jules Kounde and Raphinha as possible but reluctant departures, with Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo also being notable names.

“Thiago Alcantara is still exploring his options after leaving Liverpool, prioritizing staying in Europe. Although Saudi dealmakers attempted to secure a pre-contract with him in January, they failed to persuade him to join the Saudi Pro League. Barcelona has also shown interest in Thiago, but his next move is still uncertain,” Jacobs added.
