Slot fielded the same starting lineup that had secured victories over Ipswich, Brentford, and Manchester United, but they struggled to break through Nuno Espirito Santo’s disciplined defense.

On the other hand, Erik ten Hag led Manchester United to a commanding 3-0 win against Southampton, with his players seemingly keeping an eye on the Merseyside match.
