Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag defended his decision to leave Marcus Rashford out of the starting lineup during their 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace, dismissing the criticism from pundits as “crazy.”

Despite Rashford scoring three goals in his previous two matches, Ten Hag opted to start Alejandro Garnacho, Joshua Zirkzee, and Amad Diallo instead.

United struggled to convert their dominance into goals, and missed opportunities at Selhurst Park allowed Palace to earn a point, despite a lackluster performance from the home side.

Sky Sports analyst Jamie Redknapp was among those questioning Ten Hag’s choice to bench Rashford, hinting at possible internal issues.

“It feels like something is off,” Redknapp said. “I’m not sure of the specifics, but you don’t usually drop a player who has just scored twice midweek and again against Southampton.

“Rashford may not be fully back to his best, but we’re seeing glimpses of the player from two years ago. Something seems to have frustrated the manager, and it’s unusual to see a coach publicly criticize a player’s lifestyle.

“Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn’t have done that, but Ten Hag has on a few occasions. That kind of approach doesn’t always sit well with players.”
