Former striker Marco Van Basten claims Eric Ten Hag waste resources on “Trash players”!!!, following the signing of PSG’s midfielder”. Bruno Fernandez and Andre Onana are good players, the rest…,not so much”,Van Basten comments. Who could he be referring to as “Trash Players “?,is he really saying truth that Manchester United needs to hear?
Former football star Marco van Basten has openly criticized Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, for bringing in midfielder Manuel Ugarte from PSG. Van Basten expressed his disappointment, claiming that Ten Hag has been making poor choices by signing players who don’t meet the club’s standards.
His remarks followed Manchester United’s 3-0 home loss to Tottenham Hotspur, which left the team with only two wins in the league this season and sitting in 13th place after six matches. Despite receiving significant financial backing for transfers, including the signings of Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Ugarte, the team’s performance has not improved much.
Speaking on Ziggo Sport, Van Basten specifically criticized Ugarte’s €50 million transfer, questioning, “How is this player still around? It’s outrageous how much Ten Hag has spent on players who aren’t even good.”
United reportedly paid £50.8 million for Ugarte, who was meant to provide backup for Casemiro. However, the 23-year-old has failed to impress in his two appearances, struggling during his debut in a 1-1 draw against Twente, and performing poorly against Tottenham, where he was eventually replaced by Christian Eriksen.
Van Basten also raised concerns about the overall quality of Manchester United’s squad. He was particularly critical of Marcus Rashford and Casemiro, stating they are not at the level required, while giving credit to Bruno Fernandes and Andre Onana. He commented, “Rashford is performing very poorly. Bruno Fernandes is a quality player, and Onana is a good goalkeeper—that’s all.”
He further added that Casemiro’s best days are behind him, and while Alejandro Garnacho has shown some promise, no one has stepped up as a leader within the squad.
Ten Hag is now under increasing pressure as Manchester United prepares to face FC Porto in the Europa League on October 3.
