Liverpool star player has officially left the club this afternoon after Liverpool drew against Manchester United and his teammates bullying him over poor performance. 😱😡 We wish him the best of luck! 👏
Liverpool have announced their first permanent transfer of the January 2025 window, but instead of an incoming player, it marks a departure.
Marcelo Pitaluga Rejoins Fluminense
Over the weekend, reports from Brazil indicated that Fluminense was negotiating with Liverpool to bring back goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga. The 22-year-old had reportedly expressed a desire to return to his home country.
These talks have now been concluded, with Liverpool confirming the move on their official website. Pitaluga has rejoined Fluminense on a permanent deal, subject to international clearance.
The young Brazilian originally joined Liverpool from Fluminense in 2020 but departs without making a competitive first-team appearance. During his time at Anfield, he was named in the senior matchday squad seven times but never made it onto the pitch.
To finalize the transfer, Liverpool recalled Pitaluga from his loan spell at Livingston, where he made two appearances in the Scottish Challenge Cup. He had also spent time on loan with Macclesfield Town and St Patrick’s Athletic during his stint in England.
Limited Opportunities at Liverpool
Competition for the goalkeeper position at Liverpool was fierce, with Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher firmly established as the first and second choices, alongside dependable backup Vitezslav Jaros. Additionally, Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to join the club this summer, making first-team opportunities even more limited for Pitaluga.
Despite not featuring in competitive matches for Liverpool, Pitaluga received high praise from Alisson Becker, who commended him for his dedication and talent. However, Liverpool’s depth in the goalkeeper department meant regular chances for the young Brazilian were hard to come by.
A New Chapter for Pitaluga
Although Pitaluga’s time at Liverpool didn’t yield a breakthrough, his return to Fluminense provides a chance for a fresh start. The club recently claimed the 2023 Copa Libertadores title, offering an exciting environment for the goalkeeper to further his career. Liverpool supporters will undoubtedly wish him well as he begins this new chap
ter back in Brazil.
