VERY SAD NEWS has been announced for De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Doku this evening as the players will not get the FIFA Club World Cup Medal

Why Haaland, De Bruyne and Doku will not get a medal if Man City win FIFA CWC

Manchester City go up against Fluminense in the FIFA Club World Cup final on Friday night – but there has been a change involving Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku.

As a result of this change, none of the three would receive a medal if Manchester City defeat Fluminense.

So, why would Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku not receive a medal if Manchester City win the FIFA Club World Cup? Let’s take a look…

Why will Haaland, De Bruyne and Doku not get a medal if Manchester City win FIFA Club World Cup?

Well, the trio were all named in Manchester City’s initial 23-man squad by Pep Guardiola despite the fact they are recovering from injuries.

That meant Haaland, De Bruyne and the £55.5m Doku were eligible to receive a medal if they remained in the 23-man squad and Manchester City went all the way.

However, Guardiola has since swapped the trio out for Micah Hamilton, Max Alleyne and Mahamadou Susoho when naming his new 23-man squad for the final against Fluminense, which you can see on an official FIFA document.

Only those 23 players in the squad are eligible to receive a medal – meaning Haaland, Doku and De Bruyne are set to miss out.

In fact, the squad for the 3-0 win over Urawa Red Diamonds had to stay the same, as FIFA rules mean those who missed the semi-final clash cannot play in the final regardless.

FIFA are only expected to issue 23 medals for the players – although there have previously been instances where managers request more to recognise everybody who played a role

For example, Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp decided to ask the Football Association (FA) for more medals after the 2022 FA Cup win over Chelsea, as detailed by the Daily Mail.

It remains to be seen if FIFA will allow more medals to be sent out like the FA did – but we see no reason why Manchester City cannot purchase more.
