As the transfer window heats up, could this be the end of an era for our beloved Red Devil? Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
Victor Lindelof’s tenure at Manchester United might be coming to an end this summer due to limited playing time over the past two seasons. Dharmesh Sheth informed GIVEMESPORT that with just one year left on Lindelof’s contract, the defender may seek a new club.
Lindelof joined Manchester United from Benfica in 2017 under then-manager Jose Mourinho. Over the years, he has become a reliable figure at Old Trafford, amassing 259 appearances in various competitions. Sheth speculates that Mourinho, now the manager of Fenerbahce, might be interested in reuniting with the Swedish defender.
Lindelof’s uncertain future at United is evident. With only a year left on his contract and having made just 19 appearances last season, his lowest since his debut season, there is no clear direction for his future at the club.
In the Premier League last season, Lindelof ranked 17th in appearances with 19 games, contributed one assist, and had notable stats in passes, clearances, and aerial duels. Despite speculation about a potential move to Everton as part of a deal for Jarrad Branthwaite, and another possible swap for Inter Milan’s Benjamin Pavard, neither deal has progressed, leaving Lindelof’s future in limbo, with Fenerbahce emerging as a possible destination.
Sheth revealed that there are no ongoing or planned talks between Lindelof and Manchester United for a contract extension. Mourinho, who brought Lindelof to United, is now showing interest in the defender again. Other clubs are also interested, and if Lindelof leaves, United might need to sign another central defender, possibly two.
Despite Raphael Varane’s departure, selling Lindelof now might not make sense. However, with new defensive targets in sight, Lindelof might find it increasingly difficult to secure a spot in the team. Currently, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire are the preferred central defensive pairing, with Jonny Evans potentially signing a new one-year deal and Willy Kambwala emerging as a promising young option. Lindelof, who was signed for around Β£40 million, could struggle to maintain his position.
