Liverpool star likely to leave the club in January after Arne Slot’s decision. It wasn’t supposed to end like this! 👀

Former scout Mick Brown has disclosed that Liverpool is working hard to secure a contract extension for defender Virgil Van Dijk, whose current deal is nearing its end.

Despite uncertainties surrounding his future at Anfield, the 33-year-old Van Dijk has had an outstanding start to the season, forming a solid partnership with Ibrahima Konate.

Under the leadership of manager Arne Slot, Liverpool’s defense has been strong, allowing just two goals in their first seven league games, with Van Dijk playing a key role.

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown mentioned that Liverpool is eager to retain Van Dijk due to his status as one of the top defenders in the world.

He pointed out that the club would face difficulties finding a defender of Van Dijk’s quality should he leave. In addition to Van Dijk, contract uncertainties also surround Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, raising questions about how Liverpool has managed their contracts. All three have been vital to Liverpool’s success this season, helping the team rise to the top of the league.

Van Dijk’s defensive leadership has been crucial to the team’s success, and his departure would be a significant loss.

While Salah and Alexander-Arnold are reportedly attracting interest from abroad, Liverpool has prepared contingency plans in case Van Dij

k moves on.
