Paul Pogba’s doping suspension has been reduced from four years to 18 months after an appeal, but the 31-year-old midfielder is still expected to part ways with Juventus.
Initially handed a four-year ban in 2023 after failing a doping test, the former Manchester United player faced a career-threatening setback. However, his successful appeal has shortened the suspension, allowing him to resume training in January and potentially return to playing by March. Despite this, Juventus is likely to terminate his contract, which currently runs until 2026, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano.
Pogba rejoined Juventus in July 2022, but his first season back was difficult, with only 12 appearances before the suspension. Juventus CEO Maurizio Scanavino confirmed that discussions with Pogba’s team are ongoing to resolve the situation.
While Pogba can start training again in January, it’s expected that he will sign with a new club during the winter transfer window. Marseille is rumored to be a strong contender for his next move.
NCI’s Malick Traore reported that Pogba is in “advanced talks” to join his former Manchester United teammate, Mason Greenwood, at Marseille, a club performing well in Ligue 1 this season.
Pogba’s positive test for DHEA, a banned substance found during a random test at the start of the 2023/24 season, was confirmed in October 2023. He maintains that he did not knowingly take any illegal su
bstances.
