The performance of one Man City star against Bournemouth wowed Lineker and Richards.
On Saturday night, Manchester City beat Bournemouth 1-0. After the game, both Gary Lineker and Micah Richards showed John Stones a lot of love.
City kept up their good form by beating the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium.
Even though Andoni Iraola’s team played hard, City’s superiority won out in the end, and Phil Foden once again came through big for City.
After Erling Haaland’s first shot was saved in the first half, the England player was there to score the second.
The lead has been cut back to just one point, and the race for the title is very close.
Lots of people think that City’s best players coming back could make the difference. For Pep Guardiola, the health and form of the great John Stones are going to be very important.

Even though the score was only 1-0, City played very well and had control at the Vitality Stadium.
When Stones plays, City usually has a lot more control over the game. The 29-year-old is so good with the ball and so smart about the places he picks up when he moves from defence to midfield.
His performance on Saturday was so good that Lineker and Richards were shocked when they saw it on Match of the Day.
“John Stones, his position, he’s playing centre back!” Richards said. But look at all the jobs he’s getting! He’s not just there to act like something else. He gets the ball, plays it, checks his shoulder, gives, and then he wants to go. He played great all around today; the only things he didn’t get were a goal or an assist.
“He’s filled in gaps in the middle of the field before, but his position was mesmerising. I love how he draws people in.”
Lineker went on to say, “I was mesmerised by John Stones’ performance; I thought it was amazing for a central defender.”
Stones are very important to the city
It’s always great to see Stones play like this, and Saturday showed just how much better City are when he’s on the pitch.
Because of injuries, it’s been a difficult season for him. City fans have talked about the absences of Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, and Rodri. Guardiola actually said that Stones is still not fully fit after the game.
Without Stones, though, things wouldn’t be nearly as important because no one else can really provide that level of power.
As City try to win another title, keeping him healthy will be very important.
