Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has joined this shocking European Club for a year contract worth over £2 million

David de Gea, a former goalkeeper for Manchester United, has moved on a free transfer to Fiorentina in Italy.

Last summer, De Gea’s 12-year tenure at Old Trafford came to an end when he left the team at the end of his contract without reaching an extension agreement. There was controversy about the circumstances of his leaving. Concerns over De Gea’s distribution and ability to play out from the back have some United supporters calling for the player to sign a new contract, while others felt the team should let him go.

De Gea declined Saudi Arabia’s offer to play in the Middle East after leaving United, and he remained a free agent for the duration of the 2023–24 campaign.

The Serie A season is scheduled to start next week, and the goalie will be formally introduced as a Fiorentina player this weekend after completing his physical on Friday. For the second consecutive year, Fiorentina lost in the Conference League final after finishing eighth in Italy’s premier division.

Soyfan Amrabat, a former loanee of United, is still with the Florence team. Amrabat postponed his return to Fiorentina’s preseason this summer in an effort to pressure a transfer to United, but according to the Italian media, he has since resumed training.

Erik ten Hag was supposed to meet with new sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox, and chief executive Omar Berrada last month to discuss the possibility of purchasing Amrabat. United needs a midfield player before the transfer window closes on August 30.

Amrabat’s transfer to Old Trafford remains a possibility as United continues to examine signing him.

After failing to find a new club the previous season, many people assumed De Gea would have retired, but Fiorentina has given him the chance to start a new chapter in his career. In addition to winning four times as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year, De Gea has won the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Premier League, and the Europa League with United. He maintained 190 clean sheets in 545 goalkeeping appearances, a club record, and there have been rumors of a testimonial at Old Trafford when he hangs up his mitts.
