Spanish media reports indicate Barcelona are now ready to exercise their £26million buy option for Marcus Rashford’s permanent transfer from Manchester United.

The England forward moved to the Spanish champions on a temporary deal during the summer following a breakdown in his relationship with Ruben Amorim. His previous loan stint at Aston Villa occupied the latter portion of last campaign, with his final United outing occurring in December 2024.

The 28-year-old has contributed 10 goals and provided 12 assists for Barcelona throughout the current season. His strong showing in Spain has enhanced his prospects of inclusion in England’s World Cup selection this June.

Recent reports suggested the Catalan side was reluctant to meet the initially agreed permanent transfer price and had presented two alternative proposals to United. These included acquiring Rashford at a reduced cost or extending his loan arrangement for another year with a mandatory purchase commitment in 2027.

Yet according to Spanish publication Marca, Rashford is determined to secure his long-term future at Barcelona, with the club now prepared to trigger the buyout clause and complete the permanent signing for the established £26m fee.

The departure of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski looms this summer when his deal runs out. With the 37-year-old yet to agree new terms in Spain, Hansi Flick’s squad will be motivated to reinforce their attacking options.

Rashford is believed to favor making his Barcelona switch permanent after adapting swiftly to his new environment. “It’s been incredible. I feel accepted, I feel like I belong,” he shared with the BBC late last year.
