Mauricio Pochettino’s future as Chelsea head coach in doubt, says Ian Wright
The Argentine joined Stamford Bridge this summer with the goal of improving the team’s fortunes following a dismal 12th-place finish in the Premier League the previous season.
However, Pochettino has had a difficult time thus far as Chelsea has won only one of its first six Premier League games this season.
The Blues have only won once, at home against Luton Town, and have dropped three games overall, most recently against Aston Villa this past weekend at Stamford Bridge.
After the game, Pochettino pleaded with Chelsea’s leadership to “give him time” as the former Tottenham manager attempts to recover from a dismal start.
Wednesday’s schedule for Chelsea includes a Carabao Cup match, followed by Premier League matches against promoted Burnley and west London rival Fulham.
Given that Chelsea’s upcoming opponents include Arsenal, Brentford, Tottenham, and Manchester City, Wright believes it is imperative that Chelsea win their matches against Fulham and Burnley.
The Arsenal great declared on The Kelly and Wrighty Show that the two must-win games in the team’s upcoming schedule are the Fulham derby and Burnley.
If they lose the following two, “You would worry for them.” As you observe Chelsea, you have the feeling that soon, something will have to give. The next two games, in my opinion. You need to start worried for Pochettino if they don’t do it.
I’m not sure if a new manager would take over and immediately modify it, but we have seen it with Ange Postecoglou; in just five or six games, he has developed a style that we can all recognize. Even now, while considering Chelsea, we are unsure of their starting lineup.
