Kalvin Phillips is set to leave Man City in January to join their Premier League rivals
Exclusive: An expert predicts when a decision will be made regarding a Man City star and a potential transfer to Newcastle.
Due to a lack of playing time at the Etihad Stadium, midfielder Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City has recently been the subject of rumours and conjecture around transfers.
In the most recent installment of his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing, Fabrizio Romano addressed these reports, saying that since the England international decided to remain at City for the summer, a decision on this deal is likely to be made later.
However, if Phillips decides he wants to move on after January and find more playing time somewhere, Newcastle would be a suitable choice.
Romano anticipates a final decision to be made closer to January, but for the time being, it appears that nothing especially definite is occurring on this issue. Newcastle’s plans will also depend on how well they perform in their Champions League group.
Karl Phillips – Despite connections to Everton and Newcastle, I am not aware of any actual negotiations on this one. Despite some approaches, Phillips wanted to remain at City this summer, so he’s still committed to giving City his all. A decision will be made later, in November or December, Romano added.
Newcastle won’t make any decisions on transfer targets until they know how their Champions League group is doing.
Even though Phillips has been somewhat unlucky not to have had more of an impact at City, one would expect that the majority of Magpies supporters would be happy to have him join the team. Phillips was outstanding while playing for his old side Leeds United.
