Pep Guardiola broke down in tears after Key Manchester City player who was supposed to be sold this January had a career ending injury yesterday

After being challenged by Maximo Perrone, another Manchester City loanee, Joao Cancelo now has a knee issue.

On their official website, Barcelona declared that the 29-year-old had injured his left knee’s medial collateral ligament.

What transpired thereafter between Maximo Perrone and Joao Cancelo? Let’s examine this.

Maximo Perrone injures Joao Cancelo
The two Manchester City loanees squared off in a La Liga match between Barcelona and Las Palmas.

In a match with a strong Manchester City theme, Xavi’s team won 2-1 in the Estadio Gran Canaria due to goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres.

Regretfully, Cancelo was only on the pitch for 11 minutes when the Portugal international was forced out due to a “very hard clash” with Perrone, as reported by the Spanish news agency SPORT.
The Manchester City loanee’s comeback date was not specified by Barcelona when they made the injury announcement on their official website.

On the other hand, it sounds awful.

The injury to Joao Cancelo may impact the sale of Manchester City.
Prior to his injury, a permanent transfer to Barcelona was all but certain for the Barreiro-born defender.

With three goals and two assists in 22 games under Xavi, Cancelo has excelled in Spain.

Despite some reservations about Manchester City’s €30 million (£26 million) asking price, a story from the previously cited SPORT stated that Barcelona had already made the decision to sign the Portugal international on a permanent basis.

Alejandro Balde, the number three player for Barcelona, was even mentioned as a potential trade partner.

However, given that Cancelo turns 30 in May, Barcelona would undoubtedly hesitate to invest their meagre resources on him if his injury is severe enough to keep him out of action for the duration of the 2023–2024 season.

Hopefully, Cancelo’s knee issue is not too serious and he can get back to playing soon. Stay tuned for further information.
