Guardiola says, “I hate Chelsea for this rhythm against us,” explaining why Man City was unable to defeat Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola has attributed Manchester City’s failure to defeat Chelsea at home on Saturday night to bad luck and a subpar first half showing.
The defending champions held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw after Rodri, albeit late in the contest, cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s opening goal.
Even though they have played one fewer game than Liverpool, City is now four points behind the league leaders and two behind Arsenal.
“It was a good game,” Guardiola remarked following the contest. The second half was superior to the first. We had a really fantastic performance in the second half, but we were unable to win because the first half we were not in the right rhythm.
“We had a lot of opportunities and played well. We were so near, so it should have been on target, but it is what it is. You have to play for ninety-four minutes to play against a team of such calibre. That did not occur today.
“I’m always upbeat, but the team did everything they could to earn that many opportunities after the goal, so that’s sufficient.”
Tuesday is our next meeting day. We were in Saudi Arabia to win the Club World Championship, so nobody else plays. We just strive to get well and perform well.
Chelsea could have won the match on an other day, so Guardiola should be relieved that they did not lose.
