Liverpool Fans Criticize Player for Allegedly Ignoring Klopp During Guard of Honour

Liverpool supporters have expressed disapproval over a player’s purported lack of recognition for Jurgen Klopp during the guard of honour after Sunday’s match.

The German manager received a heartfelt send-off following his team’s 2-0 victory against Wolves, marking the end of his nine-year tenure at Anfield.

After the game, Klopp delivered an emotional farewell speech and introduced a chant for the new manager, Arne Slot. The farewell included a guard of honour for departing figures like Thiago and Joel Matip. Klopp’s assistant, Pep Lijnders, who is set to take over as head coach of RB Salzburg, was also warmly received.

However, attention turned to Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez, whom fans accused of failing to applaud Klopp during the guard of honour.

Footage shared by Twitter user @ynwamatt showed Nunez clapping for everyone except Klopp, which drew significant backlash on social media. Comments ranged from expressions of annoyance to criticisms pointing out that Klopp and Liverpool fans had supported Nunez when other big clubs did not.

Some fans noted that Nunez had removed Liverpool-related content from his Instagram and speculated he might be struggling with Klopp’s departure, adding pressure on him.

Despite this incident, Nunez was later seen dancing with Klopp at the club’s end-of-season celebration, suggesting the apparent snub might not have been intentional.

In his emotional speech, Klopp told his players, “I love you. That’s all I can say. I can’t wait to watch you develop and take the next steps.” He concluded by saying, “Thank you for the ride. I am so proud of you and proud to have been part of this.”
