‘He informed me he would like to join Manchester United over PSG.’ Kobbie Mainoo has confirmed that his £70 million International teammate wants to leave his club this summer because he no longer enjoys playing for his current Club
Manchester United already knows the kind of player Kobbie Mainoo would want to have as a midfield partner.
Mainoo became one of manager Erik ten Hag’s first-choice names on the team sheet after enjoying his breakout season at United. In the FA Cup final against Manchester City, the 19-year-old scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal, guaranteeing United’s place in the Europa League for the next season.
As far as MEN Sport is aware, this summer, United placed all but four of its players on the transfer list. Along with Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Andre Onana, Mainoo is one of those four players.
Mainoo appears to be a major player for United in the future, and if the most recent rumors are to be believed, the team may sign another midfield player. According to Portuguese reports, the Reds have made an attempt to capture Benfica star Joao Neves.
United had a £51 million deal for Neves rejected this week, according to the Record. Neves’ contract reportedly has a €120 million (£102 million) release clause, and it is believed that the Primeira Liga team is more interested in paying him €100 million (£85 million).
Mainoo discussed his early days in the United first squad in an interview with MUTV back in April. If United were to recruit a new midfield player this summer, one of the questions may provide an indication as to what the youngster would seek from the team’s transfer transaction.
When asked who his ideal midfield partner for United would be, Mainoo said. In response, the 19-year-old gave an explanation of why Paul Scholes would be his pick as well as why the lineup would not actually function.
Back in April, Mainoo told MUTV, “I’d say, Paul Scholes.” “Even though there might not be much defending going on between us. However, Scholes, yes. Absolutely, Scholes.
“[Due to] every circumstance. His departure, his gait, his ability to close. His knowledge. He was a fantastic player, really.
