Premier League giants are ready to accept a point deduction punishment next season after FIFA investigation on Financial rules. The Season has already ended before it started.

Newcastle might consider an unconventional approach of accepting a points deduction next season to retain their essential players.

Stefan Borson explains that the Magpies are under pressure to complete significant transactions by June 30th to avoid a points penalty. Interestingly, Borson suggests the club might choose to accept this penalty to keep their key players intact.

Borson highlights, “Regarding affiliated party laws, there was a push to curb Newcastle’s momentum after their initial success.”

“City is managing the situation, sparing Newcastle the effort, and they hope City can overturn these regulations to enhance Newcastle’s competitiveness.”

“If Newcastle doesn’t sell a player by June 30th, they risk failing this year’s PSR, but they might prefer to keep the player and face the consequences. Without affiliated party regulations, navigating PSR would be easier for Newcastle.”

Challenges of the Saudi ownership at Newcastle

The Saudi Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) acquisition of Newcastle United in 2021 aimed to bring substantial investment and increased competitiveness, much like Manchester City’s transformation under the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008.

However, despite having significant financial backing, Newcastle has struggled to emulate City’s swift rise due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Profitability and Sustainability Regulations.

These rules require clubs to operate within their financial limits, restricting Newcastle’s ability to invest heavily in new players and facilities without facing penalties.

Moreover, linked party regulations prevent clubs from artificially inflating sponsorship deals through connections to their owners, further limiting Newcastle’s spending power.

Unlike Manchester City, which thrived under less restrictive regulations and secured profitable deals with owner-affiliated companies, Newcastle’s journey has been more constrained.
