Manchester United urgently needs an experienced, top-tier forward to strengthen their attack for the upcoming season. They are reportedly considering letting their current striker, Rasmus Hojlund, depart after only one season at Old Trafford in pursuit of such a player.

According to La Repubblica, Manchester United might propose a player-plus-cash deal to secure Napoli’s star striker, Victor Osimhen. This deal would involve Hojlund moving to the Italian club. Osimhen had a remarkable season, scoring 26 goals in 32 matches, helping Napoli win their first Serie A title in over three decades during the 2022–2023 season. He maintained his impressive performance the following season, netting 15 goals in 25 league games.

Trading Hojlund for Osimhen might seem surprising, especially considering the significant £72 million investment United made to sign the Danish forward from Atalanta. Despite Hojlund’s initial struggles at Old Trafford, he has shown glimpses of his potential and could develop into a top striker with more time.

Ideally, United should retain Hojlund and seek to enhance their squad depth by signing a new forward. Bringing in someone like Osimhen would be a major coup but would require a substantial financial commitment due to his high release clause. This move would likely take up a significant portion of United’s transfer budget.

To finance such a transfer, United may need to offload some of their current players. Casemiro, Mason Greenwood, and Jadon Sancho are among those who could potentially leave the club this summer. Acquiring Osimhen, who has been linked with Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, would provide any team with a versatile and prolific scorer capable of fitting into various tactical systems.
