Manchester United has reportedly turned down an offer for Mason Greenwood. Following an end-of-season review, United decided not to reintegrate Greenwood into their first-team squad, placing him on the transfer list instead.
Several European clubs have shown interest in Greenwood, who played on loan at Getafe last season. Among these clubs, Lazio has shown significant interest. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lazio made an initial bid that United rejected.
Lazio’s offer of €20 million, which included a 50% sell-on clause, fell short of Manchester United’s €35 million asking price. Despite this, Lazio intends to resubmit the same offer, valid until July 10, hoping that the lack of interest from English clubs and no other bids might push United to accept their terms. Lazio also plans to offer Greenwood a contract worth €3.5 million per year, plus €500,000 in add-ons.
Other clubs, including Marseille and Benfica, are also reportedly interested in signing Greenwood. He was loaned to Getafe for the 2023/24 season following an internal investigation by Manchester United into his conduct. Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on charges, including attempted rape and assault, which were dropped on February 2, 2023. During his time at Getafe, he scored 10 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.
