Manchester United is on the verge of making a sensational double swoop! The Red Devils are eyeing not one, but two top-notch defenders: Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt and Everton’s rising talent Jarrad Branthwaite. This dynamic duo could bolster United’s defense, adding a blend of experience and youthful energy. De Ligt, known for his commanding presence and leadership, alongside Branthwaite’s promising potential, could transform United’s backline into an impenetrable fortress. Stay tuned for more updates!

Manchester United are actively seeking a replacement for Raphael Varane and have shown significant interest in Everton and England’s Jarrad Branthwaite. Even with Matthijs de Ligt potentially joining, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that manager Erik ten Hag may aim to acquire two center-backs.

The loss of Varane is a significant blow given his extensive experience and defensive capabilities. According to The Athletic, signing a new center-back is a top priority for United this summer, alongside acquiring a central midfielder and a striker.

Last season highlighted United’s defensive issues, with players like Jonny Evans getting significant playing time due to injuries suffered by Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelof. This left Ten Hag with limited defensive options.

In his Daily Briefing, Romano emphasized that Branthwaite remains a key target for United despite the potential addition of de Ligt. Branthwaite, who is the only player for whom United has made an official offer, had a £35 million plus add-ons bid rejected by Everton. There is a considerable gap between the two clubs’ valuations, with Everton demanding £65-70 million due to Branthwaite’s age, Premier League experience, and talent—a price that is currently beyond United’s budget. However, if Everton lowers their asking price, United are prepared to renew their pursuit.

Romano also mentioned that United might strengthen their defense with two new signings this summer. Their interest in de Ligt, who is open to moving to Old Trafford, is growing.

Branthwaite would be an ideal addition to United’s squad. He is tall, good with the ball, and well-versed in Premier League play. The young defender impressed during his debut season at Goodison Park, helping Everton avoid relegation.

On the offensive front, Ten Hag is eager to sign a new striker to reduce the scoring burden on Rasmus Hojlund. Hojlund scored 16 goals in all competitions during his first season at Old Trafford, but United still want to increase their attacking options to secure a Champions League spot for the 2024/25 season.

Manchester United are in advanced talks with Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, with a potential deal around £40 million, as reported by journalist Ben Jacobs. United have overtaken AC Milan in the race for Zirkzee, whose 11 goals helped Bologna secure Champions League qualification, prompting United’s strong interest.
