Man Utd fans, get ready for a thrilling transfer saga! The club is shifting its focus towards Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi instead of Sporting’s Manuel Ugarte. Zubimendi, known for his tactical intelligence and defensive prowess, could be the perfect addition to bolster our midfield. With the summer transfer window heating up, this potential move promises to bring excitement and strengthen our squad. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!

Manchester United are eyeing a summer move for Martin Zubimendi, but they will have to fend off interest from Barcelona and Arsenal, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Zubimendi shone for Real Sociedad last season, making 31 La Liga appearances and helping the team secure a spot in the Europa League. His standout performances, coupled with impressive displays during Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, have attracted attention from numerous European clubs.

Arsenal are contemplating a bid for the 25-year-old, along with his Sociedad teammate Mikel Merino. Barcelona has also been a long-rumored destination. However, United have recently joined the race as they seek to strengthen their midfield, which could see departures this summer.

Manchester United’s Midfield Overhaul

Zubimendi’s affordable release clause makes him an attractive target. United aim to revamp a midfield that struggled last season, exposing their defense and resulting in the second-highest number of shots conceded in the Premier League, just behind Sheffield United. The club has opted not to sign last season’s loanee, Sofyan Amrabat, on a permanent deal, although he might still return. Meanwhile, Casemiro is expected to leave, and Scott McTominay is reportedly being pursued by Southampton and Newcastle.

Manager Erik ten Hag has expressed a desire to retain McTominay, but this could be a tactic to increase his transfer value. Regardless of McTominay’s future, United need further midfield reinforcements, with INEOS seeking a long-term partner for Kobbie Mainoo.

Paris Saint Germain’s Manuel Ugarte is the primary target, having agreed in principle to join Manchester. However, negotiations with PSG are proving difficult, necessitating a backup plan.

Zubimendi is reportedly on United’s shortlist as an alternative to Ugarte. With a €60 million release clause, the Spanish international represents a cost-effective option given his quality and reputation. Renowned for his passing ability, Zubimendi is highly regarded by Spain manager Luis de la Fuente, who has called him “one of the best central midfielders in the world” alongside Manchester City’s Rodri.
