Manchester United’s persistent hunt for a new midfielder has recently turned its attention to Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, who is reportedly interested in the potential transfer, as reported by journalist Dylan McBennett.

Fofana had a standout 2023/24 season in Ligue 1, where he scored four goals and provided four assists, contributing to Monaco’s second-place finish. His impressive performance secured him a spot in Didier Deschamps’ Euro 2024 squad and attracted interest from AC Milan, Arsenal, and Manchester United.

Arsenal has reportedly scouted the 25-year-old but has not made an official move, while Milan has reached personal terms with Fofana. However, talks between the Italian club and Monaco have stalled, giving United a chance to step in. McBennett suggests Fofana is keen on a move to Manchester over northern Italy.

With Casemiro expected to depart Old Trafford this summer and Scott McTominay drawing interest from Fulham and Tottenham, United might face a shortage of midfield options next season. The club also decided against signing Sofyan Amrabat permanently, while Aston Villa has shown interest in Mason Mount.

The urgency for midfield reinforcements is growing with the Premier League season approaching. Manuel Ugarte has emerged as United’s top target, with ongoing negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over a £50 million deal.

Fofana is seen as a potential alternative to Ugarte, and United is ready to capitalize on Milan’s stalled negotiations. With a year left on his Monaco contract, Fofana is available at a reduced price this summer.
