Manchester United are eyeing Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell as a key target this summer, according to Sky Sports News. The club aims to strengthen their defense, focusing on full-backs due to injuries sustained by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia during the 2023/24 season.

With Mitchell’s contract at Selhurst Park entering its final year, INEOS has identified him as a potential signing, although Crystal Palace may not facilitate an easy departure.

Last season, Erik ten Hag faced defensive challenges when Malacia suffered a significant knee injury, prompting the club to loan Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon, with an option to end the loan in January. Despite this, Malacia’s recovery was delayed, and Shaw’s subsequent injury forced players like Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Sofyan Amrabat to play out of position.

To avoid a similar scenario in the 2024/25 season, Manchester United has compiled a list of defensive targets, including Mitchell. Other potential signings are Feyenoord’s David Hancko and former Chelsea and Barcelona player Marcos Alonso, who might be available on a free transfer.

Mitchell, who earns £40,000 a week at Crystal Palace, has been praised as a “silent assassin” by Stuart English. With his contract expiring in 2025, he could be available for a reasonable fee if United formalizes their interest.

In addition to Mitchell, Manchester United is progressing in talks to sign Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui. According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the Morocco international, who previously worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax, turned down a move to West Ham, holding out for an offer from Manchester United. The club hopes Mazraoui’s arrival will also benefit Antony, his former Ajax teammate. However, this deal might hinge on the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is being targeted by West Ham as United considers offloading him this summer.
