Manchester United is unwilling to meet Everton’s ยฃ70 million valuation for Jarrad Branthwaite, and a significant development might occur as Everton plans to offer the defender a new contract, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano in an interview with GIVEMESPORT.

This summer has seen Branthwaite at the center of an extensive transfer saga, with persistent rumors linking him to Manchester United. Despite two rejected bids from United, Everton, under manager Sean Dyche, remains firm in their demand for the defender’s fee.

United, in need of another centre-back after signing Leny Yoro from Lille for ยฃ52 million, face an increasingly unlikely prospect of acquiring Branthwaite. Romano indicates that unless Everton reduces their asking price, which may hinge on Branthwaite’s response to a new contract offer, a deal won’t happen.

Last season, Branthwaite emerged as a key player for Everton, making 41 appearances and helping the team avoid relegation despite a points deduction. His performance also earned him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad for the Euros.

Manchester United’s interest in Branthwaite, a left-footed central defender who could provide competition for Lisandro Martรญnez, remains strong. However, Romano suggests that Everton’s current stance makes a deal difficult, and they are preparing to offer Branthwaite a new contract to keep him at the club.

The appeal of joining Manchester United could influence Branthwaite’s decision on the contract offer. If he shows reluctance or a desire to leave, Everton might lower their asking price, prompting United to revisit the transfer. For now, this scenario seems unlikely.

In their quest for new centre-backs, United is also monitoring other players like Matthijs de Ligt, Jonathan Tah, and Marc Guehi. De Ligt is reportedly waiting for United’s move, but Bayern Munich’s ยฃ42 million price tag is a hurdle. United might consider Tah from Bayer Leverkusen as a more affordable option, while Crystal Palace’s Guehi remains a target, especially with his contract expiring in two years.
