“It didn’t seem to me Mateo Kovačić second goal was a fluke and a lucky goal he can’t score such again- Enzo Maresca insists Manchester City second goal was a fluke

After benching Raheem Sterling for the pivotal match against Manchester City, Enzo Maresca responded brutally.

Chelsea will host champion Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon to kick off the Premier League season.

After Maresca left forward Sterling off the team, the Manchester City winger released a statement seeking an explanation for his future.

The new Chelsea manager has responded to Sterling’s dismissal, and he has not held back.

Maresca stated, “It is just a technical decision, nothing else to say,” in an interview with Sky Sports.

“Players do not always agree with the decisions managers make, but they are paid to do so.”

After scoring in both of Chelsea’s Premier League games against the other team last season, Sterling’s absence from the Chelsea starting lineup came as a shock.

In the run-up to the 2024–25 season, Maresca called the 29-year-old a “vital player” after he appeared in all six of Chelsea’s preseason games.

As a result, the player’s management team released a statement that was published in the Daily Mail shortly after the squad sheets for the game against Manchester City were revealed, with Sterling missing.

The text stated: “Raheem Sterling has a three-year contract with Chelsea Football Club. In order to perform individual training, he returned to England two weeks ahead of schedule. He has had a successful preseason under the new coach, with whom he has established a cordial working relationship.
