Manchester City reach ‘full agreement’ to re-sign Legend from Barcelona with veteran midfielder making huge financial sacrifice to seal Premier League return

Less than a year after leaving the Etihad Stadium, Gundogan will be back. The 33-year-old will sign a one-year contract with City with the option of a one-year extension, according to The Athletic. To make the transfer easier, the former Germany international would even forfeit the final two years of his salary that Barcelona would have to pay him.

Last season, Gundogan played in almost 50 games for Barcelona across all competitions, earning a spot on the La Liga Team of the Season. However, a new vision has been announced at Camp Nou with the appointment of a new head coach, and the veteran midfielder was informed that he was not included in Hansi Flick’s plans. Pep Guardiola allegedly discussed Gundogan’s homecoming with him and gave the trade his OK.

WERE YOU AWARENESS?
In 2016, Gundogan became Guardiola’s first acquisition as City manager. During his initial tenure, the midfield player made 188 appearances for the team. During a remarkable seven years, he won the FA Cup twice, the Champions League, and the Premier League five times.

UP NEXT FOR CITY?
The reigning Premier League winners have had a quiet summer; Gundogan will become their second senior signing to join Brazil’s Savinho. However, they proved on Sunday in their 2-0 victory against Chelsea that they do not need much to be seriously considered for a record-tying five titles. On Saturday, they host Ipswich Town at home.
