Football News

It has just come to our attention that FIFA has just released some very unfortunate news for the officials and referees who were working the match between Manchester United and Brighton. They have lost their jobs as a result of their decision to not award an obvious goal and instead rule it offside. Justice being served to Manchester United 💨This serves as a lesson to other corrupt referees, and we want to express our happiness that justice has finally been served 😳🙀🤝

Alejandro Garnacho thought he had put Manchester United ahead 2-1 in the 70th minute when he arrived at the back post to tap in a cross from Bruno Fernandes. The Argentine forward, coming off the bench for the second time that week, celebrated with his teammates after scoring.

However, the ball had made contact with another substitute, Joshua Zirkzee, raising the question of whether the Dutch player had touched it before it crossed the line. Slow-motion replays showed that Zirkzee’s knee didn’t even come close to crossing the line.

The situation became more complicated because Zirkzee was positioned slightly ahead of Garnacho when the ball was struck, leading VAR to disallow the goal and call Zirkzee offside.

The Premier League’s Match Center Twitter account clarified the decision, stating, “Zirkzee’s goal was initially awarded on-field. VAR reviewed the play to check for offside and decided to disallow the goal. The game was restarted with a free kick for Brighton.”

Earlier in the match, Erik ten Hag’s side had fallen behind when former Manchester United player Danny Welbeck scored his 100th career goal. United managed to equalize through Amad Diallo, who was making his first Premier League start of the season. However, Brighton regained the lead late in the game when Joao Pedro connected with a cross, heading the ball past Andre Onana into the bottom left corner.
