After his disallowed goal during Manchester United’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion, Alejandro Garnacho expressed his emotions. The Red Devils suffered a 2-1 defeat on Saturday, August 24, at the Amex Stadium.

 

Brighton took the lead in the 32nd minute when Danny Welbeck scored, assisted by Kaoru Mitoma. Manchester United equalized in the 60th minute through Amad Diallo, who was set up by Noussair Mazraoui. Garnacho was substituted in for Marcus Rashford in the 65th minute and found the back of the net in the 72nd minute. However, the goal was disallowed by VAR, as Joshua Zirkzee was deemed offside in the buildup. Brighton secured the victory with a late goal from João Pedro in the 95th minute.

 

Following United’s first Premier League defeat of the season, Garnacho took to Instagram, sharing a story with a photo from the match and the message, “God has something planned for me, trust the process.” In another post, the 20-year-old forward thanked the fans for their unwavering support, saying, “Thank you United fans for always supporting us.”

 

Currently, Manchester United sits 11th in the Premier League, with three points from two games after their loss to Brighton.

 

Ahead of the match against Brighton, Manchester United’s head coach Erik ten Hag spoke about Garnacho’s potential, noting that while he has the makings of a top-tier player, there’s still much work to be done. Ten Hag emphasized that hard work is essential for Garnacho to reach an elite level, acknowledging his contributions to the team last season.

 

Garnacho, who began his senior career at Old Trafford in 2022, made 50 appearances last season, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists. This season, he has already contributed one assist in two league appearances. Manchester United’s next Premier League fixture is against Liverpool at Old Trafford on September 1.
