A source told ESPN that Al Hilal is moving closer to getting João Cancelo from Manchester City.
The player from Portugal is going to the Saudi Pro League in a deal worth £21 million ($28 million). It looks like Cancelo will soon sign a deal worth about £15 million a year.
It is been 18 months since the 30-year-old last played for City. He went on loan to Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
This summer, the defender went back to training in Manchester, but he was not in the team for the first two Premier League games, against Chelsea and Ipswich Town.
He has won the Premier League title three times and played in more than 150 games for City. He was also chosen to the PFA Premier League team of the year twice, in 2021 and 2022.
Cancelo’s last game for City was in January 2023, just before he made a shocking loan move to Bayern Munich. The German team did not want to make the deal official, so he went on loan to Barcelona last summer for the 2023–24 season.
