🚨Report: Supporters are stunned by Southampton’s actions just moments before their missed penalty against Manchester United.

Southampton had an opportunity to go ahead at St Mary’s in the 32nd minute after Diogo Dalot fouled debutant Tyler Dibling in the box. Cameron Archer stepped up to take the penalty, but Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana made an impressive save, diving to his right to deny the attempt.

Moments later, United countered and found the back of the net through defender Matthijs de Ligt. This quick turn of events was a setback for Russell Martin’s side, who were still searching for their first Premier League point of the season. United doubled their lead before halftime when Marcus Rashford scored with a stunning 25-yard strike.

Before the penalty miss, fans were puzzled by Southampton’s choice of penalty taker. Initially, it seemed Ben Brereton Diaz would take the shot, but he stepped aside, leaving it to Archer. The penalty was delayed, and Archer eventually missed from 12 yards.

One fan remarked, “That penalty miss was obvious from the start. Brereton Diaz backed off, leaving Archer, who looked uneasy and had to wait two minutes to take the shot.”

Another fan pointed out, “Brereton Diaz has taken seven penalties in his career and scored every one of them. Yet, they gave the shot to Archer instead.”

A third observer added, “Archer seemed rushed. After standing around for a minute, he took the penalty immediately after the whistle, and the result was inevitable.”

A fourth fan commented, “Brereton Diaz has converted 10 out of 11 penalties in his career, while Archer had never taken a professional penalty before.”
