A Premier League player may face a lifetime ban as new information emerges regarding his case. West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetรก is under an extended investigation by the FA due to alleged violations of rules E5 and F3.

The investigation centers around suspicious betting patterns linked to four yellow cards Paquetรก received in Premier League games against Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Leeds, and Leicester City. He is accused of intentionally earning yellow cards, with a large number of unusual bets on these cards reportedly made in Brazil, his home country.

Approximately 60 bets, ranging from ยฃ7 to ยฃ400, were placed, leading to winnings of ยฃ100,000. Paquetรก, who previously played for Lyon and AC Milan, has denied the allegations and has cooperated by providing his mobile phone to the FA for review.

The FA kept his phone for around eight weeks, during which they analyzed his communications and bank records. After getting the phone back, Paquetรก replaced it with a new one and discarded the old device, which has complicated the investigation further.

According to reports, Paquetรกโ€™s failure to present the old phone when asked has led to additional charges for obstructing the investigation, resulting in two aggravated breaches of FA Rule F3.

Despite the ongoing inquiry, Paquetรก continues to play for West Ham, recently scoring in a 4-1 win over Ipswich Town. His hearing is set for March, but the case may not be resolved until the summer.

Although Paquetรก is expected to play for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, the FA is treating the accusations as highly serious and is reportedly advocating for a li

fetime ban.
