Former Real Madrid manager and Three times Champion league winner Zinedine Zidane has been appointed as Manchester United manager after the sack of Erik Ten Hag. How did he managed to land this move

After recent talks with the Football Association (FA), it appears Thomas Tuchel might no longer be in contention to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, should the Dutch coach be dismissed. Tuchel is reportedly a strong candidate for the England national team job, which would eliminate the possibility of him moving to Old Trafford.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his company, INEOS, may have another top candidate in mind to step in for Ten Hag if his tenure ends. The pressure on Ten Hag has been increasing, with United’s recent performances falling short of expectations. The team has only managed seven wins in their last 30 matches across both the Premier League and Europe. Despite a lengthy meeting with key decision-makers, including Ratcliffe, Joel Glazer, and Sir Dave Brailsford, Ten Hag’s future with the club remains uncertain. While he retained his position after the meeting, questions about his leadership persist.

Many in the football community see Tuchel as the ideal candidate to lift Manchester United out of their current struggles, should the board opt for a managerial change. Tuchel had already been in discussions with Ratcliffe following his exit from Bayern Munich earlier this year. Despite these talks, Ratcliffe reportedly hesitated to pursue Tuchel, particularly after his significant £1.3 billion investment for a 28% stake in United.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Ratcliffe might have set his sights on another prominent figure—Zinedine Zidane. Speculation has surfaced that Ratcliffe and INEOS are considering bringing the French legend to Manchester to replace Ten Hag. This potential appointment is bolstered by Jean-Claude Blanc, now on United’s board, who previously attempted to hire Zidane during his tenure at Paris Saint-Germain.

Zidane has been patiently awaiting his next managerial role since leaving Real Madrid in 2021. During his time at Madrid, he achieved remarkable success, including two La Liga titles and three consecutive Champions League victories. At 52, Zidane remains in no hurry and is reportedly interested in taking over the French national team.

However, Zidane’s wait might be extended, as current France manager Didier Deschamps, who led the national team to World Cup victory in 2018, intends to remain in his role through the 2026 World Cup. Deschamps is said to be reluctant to pass the position to Zidane, concerned that Zidane’s legacy could overshadow his own accomplishments with the French team.

If Zidane becomes available, Ratcliffe might seize the opportunity, especially if Tuchel is out of the picture. For now, Manchester United’s leadership continues to back Ten Hag, hoping the team can improve after the October break. However, if the club’s form doesn’t turn around, Ten Hag might not last until November’s international break.

As United navigates these challenging times, it’s hard not to look back at the club’s glory days. Twenty-five years ago, Manchester United secured a historic treble. Manchester Evening News is commemorating that triumph with a special edition, revisiting the key players, memorable games, and dramatic moments from that i
