Jordan Henderson is returning to England to join this surprising club. Nobody thought this was possible! 😱

After leaving Liverpool in the summer of 2023, Jordan Henderson has continued to make headlines with his career decisions.

The former Liverpool captain accepted a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq following Jurgen Klopp’s revelation that his playing opportunities at Anfield would be limited for the 2023/24 season.

Although the financial incentives were substantial, Henderson’s move to Saudi Arabia may not have been the ideal choice.

Surprisingly, after just 17 matches with Al-Ettifaq, Henderson decided to leave and join Dutch club Ajax in a move that reportedly cost him millions.

While Ajax appeared to be a more fitting destination for the English midfielder, reports suggest that Henderson may not stay there long either.

According to Football Insider, Henderson is considering a return to his hometown club, Sunderland, during the January transfer window.

Sunderland, currently performing well in the Championship and sitting atop the table with 19 points from nine games, could benefit greatly from Henderson’s experience and leadership in their push for promotion.

A potential return to Sunderland would be a significant moment for both the club and Henderson, who could play a key role in their campaign to return to the Premier League after their relegation in the 2016/17 season.

While Henderson alone can’t guarantee Sunderland’s promotion, his leadership and skills would undoubtedly enhance the squad and help navigate the challenges of the Championship.

A return to English football could also reunite Henderson with familiar faces such as Nat Phillips, currently on loan at Derby County, and Ben Doak, now at Middlesbrough—both of whom have ties to Liverpool, where Henderson spent over ten years of his career.

If Henderson successfully aids Sunderland’s promotion bid, he could find himself back in the Premier League, potentially playing at Anfield again sooner than expected, bringing his career full circle while reconnecting with his roots and l

ifelong supporters.
