This is what Fenerbahce’s Jose Mourinho said to the referee after getting a red card
Jose Mourinho’s irate response to a judgment that went against his squad led to his dismissal during Fenerbahce’s Europa League matchup with his old team, Manchester United.
When Manuel Ugarte made contact with full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel just before the hour, the Portuguese manager was furious that his team had not been given a penalty.
When he gave the ball away, Ugarte entered to make the tackle, and Osayi-Samuel flung himself to the ground. Replays plainly reveal that there was little contact between the two players, but referee Clement Turpin waived the penalty away without a VAR review.
Diogo Dalot ultimately kicked the ball out to allow the player to receive treatment, but it did not stop the Fenerbahce bench from reacting angrily after Osayi-Samuel fell down.
Turpin went to the Fenerbahce coaching area to show a red card after the fourth official brought order back to the touchline during the play stoppage. Mourinho ultimately made his way to a platform behind the dugout, but it was unclear who had been sent out.
Mourinho pointed to himself when another Fenerbahce coach seated behind him welcomed him and seemed to be indicating that he believed he had been sent out.
