“I am done this a Complete Farse, VAR needs be scrap out completely”😡,How is that a Penalty “This is so unacceptable 😕, we have to take this issue to the FA” — Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag expresses dissatisfaction with the recent choice made concerning a Penalty by Westham

Alan Shearer, a legend of Newcastle United and the Premier League, has criticized Michael Oliver for his involvement in the penalty that cost Manchester United a point against West Ham.

When Danny Ings was taken down by Matthijs de Ligt’s little contact, the home team requested a spot kick with the score tied at one. On the pitch, the initial decision was to wave play on.

To the United team’s chagrin, VAR official Oliver stepped in and decided to reverse the original ruling and give the penalty instead. To make matters worse for United, Jarrod Bowen came up and scored to give the Hammers the three points.

“The referee did not award a penalty to West Ham after a challenge by De Ligt on Ings,” the Premier League Match Centre revealed on X (formerly Twitter) after the incident. The VAR suggested an on-field review after concluding that Ings’ lower leg had made enough contact.

“The referee gave a penalty and reversed his first ruling.” However, Shearer launched into a tirade at full time, expressing shock at the referees’ judgment.

Shearer said, “Awful choice,” to Premier League producers. “I do not understand why Michael Oliver [VAR] got involved, and whether you like Manchester United or not, that is a poor judgment.”

However, looking back on the entire match, Shearer praised the Hammers for winning. He said, “Julen Lopetegui deserves a lot of credit because his squad was terrible in the first half.”

“There was a lot more spark and vitality with the three adjustments. West Ham used excellent one-touch football to punish Man United. Today is a significant day for Lopetegui. Erik ten Hag, who is still under scrutiny after suffering yet another loss this season, may have had a big day as well.

After the game, United is in 14th place with four losses from nine Premier League games.
