Man Utd’s bid to appoint Ruben Amorim takes new twist after Sporting Lisbon make fresh demand It seemed like a done deal but there’s been a HUGE twist 😮
Ruben Amorim has addressed rumors regarding his potential move to Manchester United, stating that the decision is still open. Sporting CP confirmed on Tuesday that United had shown an interest in activating Amorim’s €10 million release clause, amid speculation that Erik ten Hag will soon depart from Old Trafford. Despite signing a contract extension in July, Ten Hag’s position weakened after a series of poor performances, leaving United at an all-time low in their Premier League standings.
On Monday, United officially ended their partnership with Ten Hag, as the club currently sits in 14th place in the league. Amorim, who has demonstrated impressive skill in Liga Portugal as Sporting’s manager, quickly became a leading candidate to replace Ten Hag.
However, Amorim made it clear that his future remains undecided, and he will make his choice based on personal aspirations. Speaking at a press event on Tuesday, he remarked, “Listen to the club statement—that’s all there is for now. Manchester United are interested in meeting my release clause, but when the details are finalized, I’ll make my decision. Ultimately, it’s up to me, provided all conditions are clear.”
He added, “I’ll make the choice I want, just as I’ve always done as a player and manager. For now, nothing has been deci
ded.”
