🗣”I didn’t know he had talked about it, but it’s true, I gave him my medal.” Casemiro didn’t tell anyone when he did it, as he didn’t want to make a fuss. But it’s just now coming to light.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro recently shared the reason behind his decision to give away his FA Cup winners’ medal to a fellow teammate.

In May, Manchester United claimed their 13th FA Cup title with a 2-1 triumph over Manchester City at Wembley. Goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo in the first half secured the victory, with Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku only managing a consolation goal. This win completed a domestic double for United, who had earlier lifted the Carabao Cup after defeating Newcastle United 2-0.

Casemiro, initially listed as a substitute for the match, had to withdraw from the squad during the warm-up due to muscle tightness. Despite not playing, the Brazilian midfielder joined the post-match celebrations and made a heartfelt gesture by handing his winners’ medal to teammate Tyrell Malacia.

Malacia, who had been sidelined all season with a knee injury, attended the final but was not entitled to a medal. Casemiro explained that the Dutch defender deserved recognition for his contributions to the team. “He’s an integral part of this squad, and we value and support him,” Casemiro stated, highlighting the significance of unity within the team.

Malacia, initially hesitant to participate in the trophy presentation, disclosed that Casemiro encouraged him to step up. “When someone with his level of experience tells you to do something, you listen,” Malacia remarked.

After recovering from his injury, Malacia recently returned to competitive football under new manager Ruben Amorim, starting in a Europa League victory over Bodo/Glimt. Manchester United now look ahead to hosting Everton on Sunday in Amorim’s first Premier League home match, aiming to maintain their positive

momentum.
