Manchester United is reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, as per a report from Footballwave.

The 29-year-old has established himself as one of the top shot-stoppers in Serie A and is now a regular member of Italy’s national team. Provedel’s reputation has grown significantly this season, earning him recognition as one of the world’s most prominent goal-scoring goalkeepers.

A standout moment for Provedel came during the Champions League group stage, where he scored a dramatic late equalizer in Lazio’s 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid. His 96th-minute header helped propel Lazio into the tournament’s Round of 16. This achievement marked just the third instance in Champions League history where a goalkeeper scored from open play.

Provedel’s goal-scoring feats are not new. During a loan spell with Juve Stabia in 2020, he scored a crucial equalizer against Ascoli. Interestingly, before transitioning into a goalkeeper, Provedel played as a striker, amassing 27 goals in the 2008/09 season for Pordenone’s youth team.

Reports of Manchester United’s interest in Provedel suggest that the club might be considering replacing their current goalkeeper with a player capable of making an impact both in goal and on the scoresheet. However, Lazio’s €35 million price tag poses a significant hurdle for a potential deal in January. United is expected to continue monitoring Provedel’s performances for a possible summer move.

Meanwhile, United’s current goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has faced criticism following his €51 million transfer from Inter Milan. Despite excelling in the Champions League with Inter—leading the tournament in clean sheets and earning accolades for his passing skills—Onana has struggled at Old Trafford. His errors, particularly in key Champions League defeats to Galatasaray and Bayern Munich, have been a cause for concern.

With Manchester United lagging in the Premier League standings and already eliminated from European competitions and the League Cup, the club appears to be prioritizing reinforcements in critical positions. Pursuing Provedel could signal a shift in their approach to the goalkeeper role, with the summer transfer window shaping up as a key moment to address their squad’s weaknesses and regain their compet

itive edge.
