Thierry Henry has expressed regret over Arsenal’s decision to appoint Mikel Arteta as head coach in 2019, suggesting the club prematurely parted ways with Unai Emery. Henry believes Emery could have delivered significant success if given more time.

Emery, who replaced Arsène Wenger in 2018, managed Arsenal for 18 months before Arteta took charge. While Arteta has since turned the team into Premier League contenders, Henry maintains that Emery had the potential to achieve similar heights. Following his departure from Arsenal, Emery proved his capabilities by winning the Europa League with Villarreal and securing Champions League qualification with Aston Villa.

Speaking to CBS Sports before Aston Villa’s 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich, Henry praised Emery’s tactical brilliance. “He’s a tactical genius,” Henry said, highlighting Emery’s ability to outmaneuver opponents strategically. Henry also emphasized Emery’s four Europa League triumphs with Sevilla and Villarreal, adding, “No disrespect to Arteta—he’s doing a fantastic job—but if Arsenal had been more patient with Unai, he would have succeeded too.”

Henry pointed to Emery’s accomplishments after leaving Arsenal as proof of his managerial expertise. “He demonstrated his quality immediately after leaving the club. I have enormous respect for him,” he stated.

Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender and fellow pundit, echoed Henry’s sentiment, calling Emery one of Europe’s top coaches. “He’s incredible, among the best in European football,” Carragher said, commending Emery’s consistent Europa League success and his rise in the Premier League.

Emery’s reputation continues to flourish at Aston Villa. Their victory over Bayern Munich, following a Champions League win against Young Boys, showcased Villa’s emergence as serious European contenders. Jhon Duran’s decisive goal against Bayern further underlined Emery’s ability to deliver memorable results on the bigges
