Lisandro MartĆnez Suffers Season-Ending Injury, Manchester United Confirm

In a major setback for Manchester United, the club has officially announced that defender Lisandro MartĆnez sustained a cruciate ligament injury during their 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday. The Argentine was forced off the pitch after 82 minutes and had to be stretchered off following medical attention.

According to a club statement, further assessments are being carried out to determine the best course of treatment and the duration of his recovery. Unfortunately, this injury rules MartĆnez out for the remainder of the season.

This isnā€™t the first injury blow for MartĆnez this year. Almost exactly a year ago, he suffered a medial collateral ligament injury in a clash against West Ham, and although he made a return in late March against Brentford, a calf issue sidelined him again for six weeks.

Manchester United expressed their full support for the player, stating: ā€œWe wish Lisandro a speedy and full recovery. Everyone at the club is behind him.ā€

Head coach RĆŗben Amorim, who took charge in the middle of the season, acknowledged the difficulty of the situation. ā€œWe donā€™t yet know how severe it is, but itā€™s definitely going to take time. Itā€™s a big blow,ā€ he said. He also addressed Luke Shawā€™s fitness, noting the defender has a minor problem unrelated to his previous injury, and that the staff will proceed with caution.

Amorim admitted that the decision not to strengthen the squad in the winter transfer window may come back to haunt him. ā€œThis job always comes with pressure, and I knew what I was walking into. Making big changes mid-season without new signings is risky. But I stand by my decisions.ā€

This unfortunate injury adds to Unitedā€™s defensive woes, and many fans are now wondering if the club should prioritize signing a new centre-back in the summer. Names like Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite are already being discussed as potential targets.

As United battles through a turbulent season, losing a key leader like MartĆnez is a major blow ā€” one that could significantly impact their momentum going forward.
