Manchester United have received two major boosts ahead of Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg class with Athletic Club.

Manchester United Receive Major Injury Boost Ahead of Europa League Semi-Final Clash in Bilbao

Manchester United fans have reason to celebrate as two key players—Amad Diallo and Matthijs de Ligt—returned to full training ahead of their Europa League semi-final first-leg showdown with Athletic Club.

On Wednesday morning, United’s squad trained under the watchful eyes of cameras at Carrington before their scheduled departure to Spain later that day. The standout news from the session was the involvement of Amad and de Ligt, both of whom have been sidelined due to injury in recent weeks.

Amad’s Long-Awaited Return

Ivory Coast international Amad Diallo has been absent since February with an ankle injury, missing crucial knockout games against Real Sociedad and Lyon. His return brings renewed creativity to United’s flanks, as his dribbling, vision, and tactical intelligence have often added flair to the team’s attack. While he may not be fit enough to start in Bilbao, his participation in full training raises hopes of a possible cameo off the bench.

De Ligt Back in the Fold

Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt also made a welcome return. The defender last played in the disappointing 2-1 loss at Nottingham Forest on April 1 and has since missed out on key fixtures, including both legs of United’s dramatic quarter-final win over Lyon. Back in training, de Ligt looked confident and composed, organizing the backline during drills and reaffirming his leadership role in Amorim’s squad.

Fitness Status Ahead of Athletic Clash

Despite being back in group training, manager Rúben Amorim confirmed that neither player is ready to start against Athletic Club. However, their inclusion in the traveling squad highlights their improving fitness levels and could be a psychological lift for the rest of the team.

A Timely Reinforcement

With the season reaching a pivotal point, these returns couldn’t be better timed. United’s depth has been tested, and having Amad and de Ligt available—at least partially—offers Amorim more options tactically. Whether it’s Amad adding energy to the final third or de Ligt bolstering the defense late in the game, both players could play a key role as United aims to secure a positive result in Spain.

With confidence high and two key figures back in contention, Manchester United now turn their focus to Bilbao, looking to continue their push toward European silverware.
