“After chasing me from the club, I’ve promised never to return again, but what Mason Greenwood told me yesterday after Manchester United Win against Fulham has really changed my mind”: Mason Greenwood reveals what Michael Carrick told him ahead of Old Trafford Comeback

When Mason Greenwood emerged in Manchester United’s first team at just 17 years old, most supporters believed they were witnessing a future superstar in the making.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the manager at the time, showed tremendous confidence in the talented young forward, and Greenwood justified that belief by scoring 35 goals in 129 appearances across all competitions.
In January 2022, Greater Manchester Police arrested the player, and he subsequently faced charges including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault causing actual bodily harm.
These charges were eventually dropped after key witnesses stepped back from the case and “new evidence emerged”.
**Greenwood’s journey beyond United**
Despite the charges being dropped, Manchester United chose not to bring him back into the squad after facing intense opposition from supporters.
This meant the English forward had to reconstruct his career abroad, starting with a loan spell at Getafe, where he impressed with 10 goals and six assists, earning the club’s Player of the Year honour.
The 24-year-old then secured a permanent transfer to Olympique Marseille, where he appears to have recaptured the electric form that once made him a recognizable name throughout the Premier League.
This campaign, the England international has notched 20 goals and contributed six assists, attracting attention from major clubs including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and even Liverpool.
**Impressive performances in France**
According to Football Insider, though, the 20-time English champions included a buyback option in Greenwood’s transfer to Marseille, and club officials are now considering activating it.
This clause could allow United to re-sign him for considerably less than his current market valuation, with recent reports indicating that Marseille might command up to €100 million for his services.
“Sources tell Football Insider that Man United officials have been discussing internally the possibility of bringing Mason Greenwood back to Old Trafford.
“When the Red Devils sold the 24-year-old winger to Marseille in summer 2024, they included a buy-back provision allowing them to re-sign the player for significantly less than his current market price.”
**What will the fanbase think?**
It remains uncertain whether this potential move aims to bring him back into the first team or if INEOS simply wants to re-purchase and resell him for complete profit.
Supporters will undoubtedly be watching this developing situation closely in the coming days.
