Ralf Rangnick’s sole recruit during his tenure as Manchester United’s interim manager has renewed his contract, securing his place at Old Trafford until at least 2027.
Rangnick, who managed 29 games with a modest 38% win rate, was originally expected to continue as a technical consultant before accepting the role of head coach for Austria’s national team. Despite Austria’s unexpected exit in the Euro 2024 round of 16, the team had shown promise under his leadership during the group stage.
While at United, Rangnick candidly discussed the urgent need for significant squad changes but managed to sign only one player. In March 2022, Tobias Collyer was acquired from Brighton on a three-and-a-half-year contract, initially joining the under-21 squad.
Though Collyer has yet to debut competitively for United, he has been named on the bench for seven Premier League matches, including the last four of the season. He also participated in the senior team’s pre-season tour in the United States.
