Manchester United has successfully secured Leny Yoro’s transfer after he passed the initial phase of his medical examination, according to Fabrizio Romano. This acquisition marks a notable triumph for the Red Devils, particularly because Yoro had initially aspired to join Real Madrid. Nevertheless, Manchester United’s determination ultimately prevailed.

Real Madrid’s reluctance to make a significant investment in the young Lille defender allowed Manchester United to make a decisive move last week. They offered €50 million upfront with an additional €12 million in potential add-ons, potentially raising the deal to €70 million.

Lille quickly accepted the bid, eager to sell Yoro before his contract expiration next summer. Real Madrid had considered negotiating a lower fee or waiting for Yoro’s contract to end to sign him for free next year. However, this approach did not succeed.

Yoro has now committed to joining Manchester United. On Tuesday evening, he agreed to the transfer and traveled to Manchester for his medical, completing the first part on Wednesday. Fabrizio Romano reports that Yoro has cleared this initial medical stage, bringing the deal close to completion, pending his final signature and a second medical examination.

Romano confirmed the transfer with his signature “here we go,” indicating the move’s near-official status. Yoro is expected to sign a contract with Manchester United until 2029, with an option for an additional year. Despite the considerable expense, Manchester United has secured one of Europe’s most promising young defenders, who has already established himself as a starting center-back in a top European league at just 17 years old.
